‘Education is the movement from darkness to light’- Allen Bloom

The above-mentioned thought of Allen Bloom rightly describes the vision and mission of Shri. Narayanrao Babasaheb Education Society, Ichalkaranji. We perceive fostering education is the best way to advance society.  Our aim is to provide the holistic learning experience to the students who are the nation-builders and change agents of tomorrow.

The lamp of education was lighted by His Highness Late Mr. Narayanrao Ghorpade, the Jahagirdar of the then Ichalkaranji province, by starting Govindrao High School. Thereafter, with the initiative taken by five ex-teachers of Govindrao High School, Shri Narayanrao Babasaheb Education Society was established in 1898, which presently manages seven different units providing education from KG to PG.  The NBES laid the foundation of Shri Venkatesh Mahavidyalaya in 1983 with the chief intent of providing commerce education only, considering the background of textile business which is the chief lifeline of Ichalkaranji.  Commerce stream, under which the students study the trade and business activities, is quite popular in India as the stream offering a wide arena of career. I would like to quote here Thomas Gray’s statement ---‘Commerce changes the fate and genius of nations.’

The vision as exemplified by the founders, embodied in its motto as ‘Satkriya Acharavi’, meaning ‘the practice of quality behaviour’ is our guiding post. I feel that this college has progressed right from the beginning to a glorious destination, both in quantitative and qualitative sense. Several achievements by teachers in academics and by students in academics, sports and cultural activities have made the college an eminent and prominent place of commerce education. Under the able leadership of Hon. Madanlalji Bohara, the President of NBES since 1982 and late Hon. Gajananaraoji Kamble, the college has emerged as the premier institution of imparting commerce education. I have occupied the office of Chairman of NBES in October, 2017, and in the light & vision of Hon. Madanlalji Bohara I am committed to take the Institution to greater heights.

I bestow the whole credit for the progress of the college to Prin. Dr. B.A. Khot, honourable members of College Development Committee (Formerly known as Local Managing Committee), teaching and non-teaching staff members who have contributed to the success and achievements of the college. I express my best wishes to the Principal, teachers, office staff, students and alumni.

            With warm regards.

Mr.Harish S Bohara
